When Elizabeth is called as a witness during the trial, she says "It may, therefor, be judged indecent in me to come forward on this occasion; but when I see a fellow-creature about to perish through the cowardice of her pretend friends, I wish to be allowed to speak." Who are the "pretend friends" Elizabeth mentions? How might her statement also apply to Frankenstein?
