$x+5y=-17\\ 3x-4y=6\\\\ x=-17-5y\\ 3x-4y=6\\\\ 3(-17-5y)-4y=6\\ -51-15y-4y=6\\ -19y=57\\ y=-3\\\\ x+5\cdot(-3)=-17\\ x-15=-17\\ x=-2$
