You will have to add or subtract the like terms.
9x + 4y - 7x + 2y
9x - 7x + 4y + 2y
2x + 6y
The answer would then be 2x + 6y

Just combine like terms. So 9x would go with -7x and 4y will go with 2y. so 9x-7x equals 2x, and then 4y+2y equals 6y.So your final expression will be 2x+6y
