You need a common denominater so multiply 3 by 4 and 4 by 3.
You will also need to multiple 1 by 4 and 3.Then you add you numerators straight across. So the answer should be 7/12.

First turn the fraction into common denominators. Then add them.
1/3 = 4/12
1/4 = 3/12
4+3 = 7
=7/12
