After he gives kayla marbles, Matt has 1/4 of the marbles. Add this to 1/3, which is the same as 3/12+4/12 which is 7/12 of a jar left.

full jar of marbles,
He gave Kayla 3/4 of the marbles so 1/4 left
Then Kayla returned 1/3 of a jar's worth of marbles to the jar
1/4 + 1/3 = 3/12 + 4/12 = 7/12
Answer: 7/12 jar of marbles now.
