I like to remember the order of operations by using PEMDAS:
P- start first by solving the problem in the parenthesis.
E- move on to completing any exponents.
M- Next, multiply any expressions that are available.
D- Then, you divide any expressions that are available.
A- Add everything together if need be.
S- Finally, you subtract anything if the equation says to subtract.

Really, PEMDAS is a way of prioritizing which part of the equation you start with and move onto.
