A tree is 2 1/2 feet tall. How tall will it be in 3 years if it grows 1/4 foot each year? Which method will NOT give the correct number of feet?

Since the answers are not given, I will give an explanation myself. Multiplying three years by the number of feet per year (1/4 foot), but not adding it to the original height (2 1/2 feet), will give you the WRONG answer.
