1/6 + 1/12
Get the same denominator. In this case it's 12.
So, multiply.(What ever you do to the denominator you do to the numerator.)
1/6 * 2 = 2/12
1/12 * 1= 1/12
2/12 + 1/12 = 3/12
Simplify if needed.
=1/4
