Many of the people who set up to search for gold did not end up finding any. The gold rush did favor some, who were able to make great fortunes. However, the majority of people did not obtain those benefits. Instead, many of them relocated and searched for gold with no success, but stayed in their new locations and engaged in other trades. Many people stablished businesses, such as saloons and restaurants. Many others joined industries such as mills and mines. Others became farmers. The combination of these people created the country as we know it today.
