Twice a number added to a smaller number is 5. The difference of 5 times the smaller number and the larger number is 3.

So if 2x+y =5. And 5y-3=x, you can solve for x in the second equation for 5y-3=x. Then substitute that into the first equation and solve for y and you’ll get y=1. Use that to find x. The answer is the smaller number is 1 and the larger number is 2.
