What is the function of the lysosome in eukaryotic cells?

Lysosomes are the organelles that contain enzymes used for digesting. So, they digest food particles, bacteria, and excess organelles.

Lysosomes break down materials such as lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins into molecules small enough so that the materials can be used by the rest of the cell.
