A large oak tree is 17 meters tall. At a certain time of day, it casts a long shadow on the

ground below. The tip of the shadow of the oak tree is 51 meters from the base of the tree.
At the same time, a tall statue casts a shadow that is 63 meters long. How tall is the statue?

Explanation:

Using the concept of similar triangles :

Taking the ratio of similar sides :

h/17 = 63 /51

Cross multiply :

h * 51 = 17 * 63

51 * h = 1071

Divide both sides by 51

(51 * h) / 51 = 1071 / 51

h = 21

Hence height of statue = 21 meters
