Given:

(247)/(10^2)\text{ and }247*10^2

10^2 = 100 so we are really dividing and multiplying by 100.

a. When you divide by 100 or any number that has a base of 10 you have to shift the decimal place of the number to the left how many times the exponent is. Opposite is true if you are multiplying.

b. 247/10^3 and 247*10^3

247/10^3 ⇒ 247. (shift decimal places 3 to the left) ⇒ .247⇒ 0.247

247*10^3 ⇒ 247. (shift decimal places 3 to the right) ⇒247,000.⇒ 247,000

Answer:

a. We shift 2 decimal places to the left when dividing 247 by 10^2 and we shift 2 places to the right when we multiply 247 by 10^2

b.

247/10^3 ⇒ 0.247

247*10^3 ⇒ 247,000
