let X the price of candy the girls sold
and Y for the boys
so we have X + Y = 180
and X = 3Y
so X + Y = 180
X - 3Y =0
is a system of equation for solving
it is 4Y=180 implies Y= 45, and X =3Y =3 .45 =135
so the boys did provide $45
