Let the two numbers be; x and x-19

The question says the sum of the two numbers is 89

That is;

x + (x-19) = 89

x+ x - 19 = 89

2x - 19 = 89

add 19 to both-side of the equation

2x - 19 + 19 = 89 + 19

2x = 108

divide both-side of the equation by 2

2x/2 = 108/2

x= 54

One of the number is 54 and the other number is

x-19 = 54 - 19 =35

The larger number is 54

The smaller number is 35
