Some species of fly larvae or maggots are used for wound therapy. These larvae live at the wound site and help in the healing process. How can the maggots live at the wound site while helping the wound heal?

Maggots are creepy, crawly, and slimy. But that slime is a remarkable healingbalm, used by battlefield surgeons for centuries to close wounds. Now, researchers say they've figured out how the fly larvae work their magic: They suppress our immune system. Maggots are efficient consumers of dead tissue.
