The correct answer is (c) Produces short-term energy for the cells when oxygen is not available

The anaerobic fermentation is needed by the body when there is depletion in oxygen level. When the body is in normal conditions, sufficient amount of oxygen is present then aerobic respiration takes place. When there is a condition that the requirement of oxygen is not fulfilled then body shifts to anaerobic fermentation for a short period of time, then it returns back to the normal conditions.
