you have to isolate the variable so you add eight to both sides x - 8 = 4 +8 +8 now add the other side. remember what is done to one side of the equal sign must be done to the other side. x = 4 + 8 x = 12

This is really easy.
x-4=8
what it really is asking you is the value of x
Isolate x
take 4 to the other side. not -4 but positive 4
x=12
