Jamal is told that it costs $24 plus a certain amount per day to rent a car. He finds that a friend rented a car from this company for $144 total for 3 days. Which linear equation represents the company's charge in terms of the number of days and the fee?

Select one:
y = 48x
y = 40 + 24x
y = 40x + 24
y = 24 + 48x

In order to find the answer, you need to plug in the information to the y=mx+b formula. We know that the $24, is B, because that is the flat charge that will not change. if we were looking at this on a grid, it would be where the line crosses the Y axis. To find m we would subtract the $24 from the $144, giving us the charge per day. 144-24= 120 we then take 120 and divide it by 3 (the number of days the car was rented) giving us 40. We now know that charge per day, or rate is $40. You can use this information in your y=mx+b formula. m=40 and b=24, so, with this information, what would be the right answer?
