Part of a speech by john randolph of virginaa given in the house of reps on december 16, 1811.~

if you go to war,it will not be for protection of...maritime rights. gentlemen from the north have been...shown all the kingdoms of the earth; and canada seems tempting in their sight...agrarian cupidity [greed from farmland] ,not maritime right, urges the war.

He felt that "agrarian cupidity" i.e. desire to have control of farmlands was the real reason for war.
