b. 1250 mL of a 4.0% (m/v) NH4Cl solution ...?

The given percentage is that of the solute, so we subtract it from 100% to get the percentage of solvent.

a) 50 x 0.95
= 47.5 ml of solvent

b) 1250 x 0.96
= 1200 ml of solvent.
