Answer:

a) 72 cm²

b) 72 cm²

c) 8 cm²

Explanation:

Given : A piece of sheet metal is cut and bent to form a box, as shown. The box has no top.

Length of box = 18 cm

Breadth of box = 4 cm

Height of box = 2 cm

Area of rectangle = Length × Breadth

a) To find the area of the bottom

Since, base of box has dimension 18 cm and 4 cm

So, area of base = 18 × 4 = 72 cm²

b) To find the area of the two longer sides

longer side is side with length 18 cm and breadth 4 cm

So area of side with longer side = 18 × 4 = 72 cm²

Thus, the area of two longer side is same as area of base = 72 cm²

c)To find the area of the two shorter sides.

shorter side is side with breadth 4 cm and height 2 cm

So area of side with shorter side = 4 × 2 = 8 cm²

Thus, the area of the two shorter sides is 8 cm².
