The church played an important role in the lives of the medieval people. The church played a crucial role in protecting and limiting the rights of women. The church doctrine considered men and women to be equal but viewed women as evil and easily driven to sin thus, they need a male protector to guide them to the right path. Church set the minimum age of marriage for women and also punished men and women if committed crime. Few women were able to obtain an education. Some nuns became the advisers of the kings and some became writers and scholars.
