A smokestacks, AB, is 55 m high. From two points C and D on the same side of the smokestack’s base B, the angles of elevation to the top of the smokestack are 40 degrees and 36 degrees repectively. Find the distance between C and D to the nearest metre.

Answer:

CD=10.15m

Explanation:

Find the distance of BC.

Tan(40)=55/BC

BC=65.55m

Find the distance of BD.

Tan(36)=55/BD

BD=75.70m

Use BC and BD to find CD

BD-BC=CD

75.70-65.55=CD

CD=10.15m
