Answer: The expression for the retail price of a silver chain is 1.4c.

Explanation:

Let the amount of jewellery be c dollars.

Rate of mark up = 40%

So, Amount of mark up would be

(40)/(100)* c\\\\=0.4c

So, Amount after mark up would be

c+0.4c\\\\=1.4c

Hence, the expression for the retail price of a silver chain is 1.4c.
