The correct answer is cell growth. Basically, during the interphase, the cell grows and the genetic material, the DNA, is multiplied as the cell becomes more and more ready for mitosis. After it's done with interphase, the cell moves into mitosis and cell division continues. The cell spends most of its life in this phase.
