Adding a negative is the same as subtracting a positive,
So,
5 + (-7.5) = 5 - 7.5
which is equal to,
-2.5
You can also graph this on a number line

Basically adding a negative is just subtraction.
I cant add a diagram but ill help ya out.
5+(-7.5) can also be written 5-7.5
Which is fairly simple but it's -2.5.
