-Multiply the denominator and the middle number, then add nominator into that product. In this case, denominator = 5, middle number = 3 , nominator = 2. So, 5 times 3 is 15. Then add 15 to the nominator 2. Thus 15+2 = 17. The new nominator will be 17. After that, follow the simple arithmetic.

10 - 3.4 = 6.6

10-3 2/5 is the same as 10-3.4 which is 6.6.
With fractions you can do:
10-3 2/5 is the same as 10-3 4/10 and also 100/10-34/10
100-34=66 so it would be 66/10 or 6 6/10 simplified to 6 3/5
