That depends a lot on which undeveloped country you want to know, and in addition, that percentage may increase in underdeveloped countries in conflict, but on average, people from underdeveloped countries spend between 45% and 121% of their income to feed their family .

While a New Yorker spends just 0.6 percent of his average daily income - out of a little more than $ 200 - to make a 600-calorie bean dish, a South Sudan spends the equivalent of 155 percent of his income daily to buy the ingredients of the same meal. That is, an American in New York, living in a similar situation to that of the African country, would spend $ 321 for the bean dish.

Food costs in rich countries may seem high, but they are in fact "almost microscopic concern" for consumers when compared to the prices of a plate of food in poor countries.
