Chromosome condense at the start of mitosis so they can be more easily

At the first stage of mitosis known as the Prophase, the duplicated chromatin inside the nucleus condenses into chromosomes, becoming more visable. the copies of the chromosomes are called sister chromatids, they are held together at the center. I hoped this helped :)
