The correct answer is C) The election was decided in the House of Representatives.

In the election of 1824, none of the candidates received enough votes in the electoral college in order to become president. In order to solve this problem, the House of Representatives became responsible for deciding the next president of the United States. Even though Andrew Jackson had more electoral votes in the general election, John Quincy Adams became president thanks to the vote by the members of the House of Representatives.
