If f(x)=x^2 - 3 and f(a)=46, what is the value of a? explain

You are trying to find what x to put into f(x) to get out 46. To do this, solve the following equation.

x^(2) -3 = 46

x^2 = 49

x^2 = √(49)
Therefore x = 7 or x = -7
