Cabbage Patch Kids were a line of dolls created by Xavier Roberts in 1978. The dolls became extremely popular during the 1980s, and they are one of the longest-running doll franchises in the United States.
Initially, the dolls were sold at arts and crafts shows.They were made with the traditional "needle molding" technique. These sculptures were, therefore, one of a kind. Instead of being offered for sale, they were "adopted," and an adoption fee was paid. This process contributed to their popularity.
