Jessica sold Thin mints, Trefoils, and Samoas.

Part a)

She sold 54 boxes of Thin mints, which was 60% of the total number she sold.

How many total boxes did she sell?

Let x be the total boxes she sold, then we can write

\begin{gathered} 60\%\: \: of\: \: x=54 \\ (60)/(100)* x=54 \\ 0.6* x=54 \\ x=(54)/(0.6) \\ x=90 \end{gathered}

Therefore, she sold a total of 90 boxes.

Part b)

If 60% of the cookies sold were Thin Mints and 10% of the cookies sold were Samoas

Then it means that 30% of the cookies sold were Trefoils.

100\%-60\%-10\%=30\%

Since we already know that there were a total of 90 boxes sold, we can find 30% of it which would represent the Trefoils.

\begin{gathered} 30\%\: \: of\: \: 90 \\ (30)/(100)*90 \\ 0.30*90 \\ 27 \end{gathered}

Therefore, she sold 27 boxes of Trefoils.
