Why is the flapper viewed as a symbol of the 1920s?

The flapper is a symbol because the emergence of the flapper girls in the 1920's. The 1920's were a mostly properous time in which young girls in search of fun would wear flappers to parties. This became a symbol of rebellion and flouting social norms.
