An integer is a number that can be either positive or negative. Examples are -5 and 5. Both numbers are integers because they are both negative or positive. Real numbers are everything except for repeating decimals. Pi for example is an irrational number

An integer is basically a whole number and any other number that is not a fraction but a rational number is any number that can be expressed as the quotient or fraction. EVERY INTEGER IS A RATIONAL NUMBER!
