If he has to pay 33% of his bonus to taxes, first I would find how much money he gets AFTER taxes are taken. First do 496 x 0.67 = 332.32

Now do 496 - 332.32 and you get 163.68

He will pay 163.68 in taxes.

The answer is $163.68

Edit: 33% is not
(1)/(3), therefore my solution is wrong. The correct answer is 0.33 x 496, which is $163.68

The following is the original solution, which is incorrect.
33% =
(1)/(3). Multiply the bonus of $496 by
(1)/(3) to get the solution of
(496)/(3), or 165 and
(1)/(3)

Therefore the solution is $165.33
