Final answer:

There are no two numbers that multiply to 6 and add to 8.

Step-by-step explanation:

To find two numbers that multiply to 6 and add to 8, we can use trial and error. Let's start with 1 and 6:

1 * 6 = 6

1 + 6 = 7

This doesn't match the conditions, so let's try the next pair, 2 and 3:

2 * 3 = 6

2 + 3 = 5

This also doesn't match the conditions. The only remaining pair is 1.5 and 4:

1.5 * 4 = 6

1.5 + 4 = 5.5

Again, this doesn't match the conditions. Therefore, there are no two numbers that multiply to 6 and add to 8.

this can be found by using substitution.
let number one be x and two be y.
xy = 6
x + y = 8
x=8-y subs this into "xy=6"
y(8-y)=6
expand and you will have a quad eqn and then just find y and use that to find x
