You need to get a common denominator, and then add the numerators. If you multiply 3/4 by 2/2, you have 6/8. Then add this to 5/8. You now have the solution of 11/8. It is important to remember to only add the top of the fractions, and to have a common number on the bottom.
Therefore the solution is 11/8.
