Trade in Africa was deeply affected by Geography.

The region is very hot and humid. Donkeys and and Horses were used to carry the products but they could not handle the distances with all that heat.

Trades would have to cross africa by Camels. These animals could survive the distance travel and the heat but the travel speed was slow.

In Ghana, they could raise crops because of the grassland stretching across North central Africa which consisted in fertilized soil. Ghana was also between the Sahara and gold mines and their trading routes linked them to other Kingdoms, sometimes reaching east Africa.

All because of a geographical position that in the end helped Ghana to become a powerful trading empire.
