as somebody else had answered you, it does depend on which animal it is.like for example birds have featahers to protect themselves, while there are some animals, which have shells to protect themselves.

Animals protect themselves in many ways, depending on the animal. For example: a polar bear survives in the North Pole because of its fur. If it didn't have any fur it would freeze to death.
