`1/8` is the same thing as
`1:8` So if you do the equation
`1/8` or
`1:8`
`*2`
`=2:18` because
`1*2=2` and
`8*2=16` So the answer is also known as
`2/16` You have to multiply top and bottom by
`2`.

There are an infinite number of equivalent ratios. To get an equivalent ratio, you must multiply or divide the numerator AND denominator by the same number. For example, 1/8 is also 2/16 because I multiplied the top and bottom by 2.
