Final answer:

To find the length of each shelf, divide the total length of the board (16 feet) by the number of shelves (11), resulting in approximately 1.4545 feet or 17.4545 inches per shelf. The distance between vertical studs of 16.0 inches is 40.64 centimeters.

Step-by-step explanation:

The student's question pertains to dividing a 16-foot board into 11 equal lengths for shelves. To solve this, we calculate the length of each shelf by dividing the total length of the board by the number of shelves Michael wants. Thus, the length of each shelf is 16 feet ÷ 11 which equals approximately 1.4545 feet per shelf, or in inches, 17.4545 inches per shelf (since 1 foot equals 12 inches).

As for converting the distance between vertical studs from inches to centimeters, since 1 inch is equal to 2.54 centimeters, we multiply the distance in inches by 2.54. So, 16.0 inches is equivalent to 16.0 × 2.54 = 40.64 centimeters.

Well it depends on what you want as the answer. If the answer is in inches just multiply 12 X 16 which equals 192.

12 X 16 = 192

Then divide by 11 to get one answer. That's just one of of doing it.

Hope this helps!
