Stem cells are the cells which have two important properties in common : Firstly, they undergo cell division in order to replace the older and damaged cells. Secondly, they have potential to develop into different cell types according to specific function they have to perform in the body, this property of stem cells is important because stem cells under physiological or experimental conditions, they can be induced to tissue or organ specific cells conducting a specialized function. Example of stem cells performing specialized functions are : muscle cell, red blood cells, brain cells.
