width is (1/3)*(7 3/4)= (1/3)*(31/4) = 31/12

width is 1/3 of the length
L = 7 3/4 = 30/4
so
30/4 * 1/3
= 31/12
= 2 7/12
answer : width = 2 7/12 ft
