First you look at the ones place. If it is larger than 5 than you round up if it is less than 5 round down. Since 8 is larger than 5 you round the number to 740

When rounding to the nearest ten, if the digit is over five, it is rounded up, and if it is under five it is rounded down. As eight is larger than 5, It is rounded up, which rounds it up to 740 Hope this helps :)
