The answer is a fraction. A fraction has two numbers, one over the other, to show "how much" out of "how many." Think of a pizza. If there are 6 slices, and you eat two of them, then you will have eaten 2 out of 6 slices of the pizza, or 2/6. At the same time, there will be 4 out of 6 slices left, or 4/6.
