An increase in Europe’s food supply led to an increase in peasant population. This rise in food supply stemmed mainly from the introduction of potatoe and maize which constituted a better yield of caloric food per acre than other crops. Thus, the population reached 266 million people as starvation was eradicated and as a result the death rate decreased.
