The length of the picture frame can be represented by the expression (3x+3) inches and the width of the picture frame is twice as long as the length. What is the total area of the picture frame?

Area= lw
l= 3x+3
w= 2(3x+3) after distributing 2 = 6x+6
(3x+3)(6x+6) or lw to find area.
Use the FOIL method: First, Outer, Inner, and last.
EX: (a+b)(c+d) would be ac + ad+ bc+ bd
Following that format:
3x* 6x = 18x^2
3x*6 = 18x
3*6x= 18x
3*6= 18
Then this adds to 18x^2 + 36x+18 which is the area
