time = 2.8 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

Speed of 1st train = 60 miles per hour

Speed of the second train = 80 miles per hour

let the time both trains meet = t

distance of the trains apart = 392 miles

Speed = distance/time

distance = speed(time)

Distance covered by train 1 + Distance covered by train 2 = Distance apart

Distance covered by train 1 = speed of 1st train (time)

Distance covered by train 1 = 60(t) = 60t

Distance covered by train 2 = speed of 2nd train (time)

Distance covered by train 2 = 80(t) = 80t

60t + 80t = 392

140t = 392

t = 392/140

t = 2.8 hours
